Irbid, Jordan

Indoor Garden City.

4  /   12 /   2017

The goal of the project is to revitalize the central district in Irbid in a sustainable approach. The design creates a sustainable attraction that borrows from old traditional architecture; specifically, the idea of courtyards and connected buildings and rooftops, maximizing a feeling of enclosure that imposes the feeling of belonging on all types of people anywhere within the district.

Design Main Goals:

- Minimizing traffic issues and providing for healthy pedestrian activity was the first step in the design; as traffic issue is a challenge because it’s a major factor that repels people from coming to the area, so a new network is proposed to create green pedestrian-only zones away from the grey streets of the city.

- Secondly, we focused on removing more grey from the district, as it lacked all kinds of open spaces and the planning and architectural unity to define it socially as a central district, so after pinpointing all the building we decided to demolish we reorganized the city; proposing multiple social attractions and a master plan that provides the needed open space and public facilities and services.

- Thirdly, we proposed a new land-use plan that while providing a clear definition of different activity zones, also provides adequate mixing of uses to guarantee the successful functioning of the district and revive all the areas within it environmentally, Socially and economically.
